IBC 2023: Nugen Audio Assistant Product Specialist Tom Griffin for TKT1957

IBC 2023: Nugen Audio Assistant Product Specialist Tom Griffin for TKT1957.

  • What are the key trends at IBC 2023, according to you?

Recently, I’ve noticed several trends like the use of Dolby, cloud technologies, and correction tools. Also, immersive audio formats and solutions for working remotely are becoming more popular.

  • What are the main development paths in your industry segment?

Our company, which focuses on audio, has designed a plug-in to remove subjectivity and biases. This plug-in lets users compare different audio pieces, such as takes, plug-in options, mix revisions, and master versions. We also conduct blind tests in ‘test’ mode to avoid biases. We work with various effects plugins like Evertz and other stereo processing tools, moving from stereo surround to also working with Dolby Atmos.

  • What new products is your company presenting at IBC 2023?

We’re showcasing VisLM3 at the show, which is a major update to NUGEN Audio’s VisLM loudness meter tool and is set to be released in November 2023. Some new features include a segments feature, which allows broadcasters to have individual loudness readouts for each segment of a show, like a TV show with commercials. This feature also comes with auto-detection technology. We also have scan monitoring, which gives you separate loudness readings for dialogue, sound effects, or background music in a session, all within the same interface. Furthermore, VisLM3 will allow users to use time-stamped notes, which can be sent to clients, colleagues, or co-producers, especially useful in our increasingly remote-working world.

  •  Are there any developments in integrating AI into your solutions?

We haven’t integrated AI into our technology yet, but it’s something we’re considering for the future.
