Hedge announces its next-generation with release of Offshoot

Introducing the Next Generation: OffShoot

Utrecht, The Netherlands, 3rd October 2023: The evolution of Hedge unfolds as it introduces its next-generation application, OffShoot. Having celebrated its seventh anniversary, Hedge believes that its application has evolved sufficiently to warrant its own unique identity and position in their lineup. After announcing the transition from Hedge to OffShoot earlier in the year, the team engaged in a customer-centric beta track, wherein received feedback significantly influenced the further refining of the release. Today, Hedge proudly launches OffShoot Solo, OffShoot, and OffShoot Pro.

OffShoot: Aligning Name and Functionality

OffShoot, while maintaining its original essence of being a swift, secure, and user-friendly application for offloading camera media, has expanded to become a part of a larger ecosystem of products and supports a more extensive range of workflows. The change in name, which aligns with the company’s vision and aptly describes the core function of the app, comes at a pivotal moment as Hedge introduces major new features and seeks to unify its software under a single brand.

Versatility Across Three Versions

The software, to cater to a diverse clientele, is being released in three versions: OffShoot Solo, OffShoot, and OffShoot Pro. OffShoot Solo utilizes the latest updates in iPadOS 17 for heightened speeds, OffShoot introduces an updated UI and new integrations, while the Pro version comes equipped with support for AWS S3 cloud storage, scripting/API capabilities, and Codex Device Manager 7, offering compatibility with the latest ARRI Alexa camera formats. Moreover, it marks the debut of the new floating license model and Connect 3 – the upcoming installment of their online dashboard and universal push notification system.

Breaking Down the Offerings: OffShoot Solo, OffShoot, and OffShoot Pro

OffShoot Media Offloading

In a bid to cater to filmmakers, photographers, and creators who prioritize mobile devices for their projects, OffShoot Solo has been designed to support fast connectivity, verified transfers, and provides cost-effective options for users to transfer camera files to their devices and other storage, all priced at USD $49.

OffShoot, formerly known as Hedge, encompasses the core copy engine technology, honed over the past seven years, to provide functionalities necessary for rapid and secure file copying. Aimed at a wide array of creatives, OffShoot facilitates accelerated data transfers and use verification to safeguard each copy. Its organizational functionality assists in defining folder structure, renaming, and integrating with other applications, all while ensuring an easy-to-use interface, priced at USD $149.

Designed to assist specialized tools and advanced workflows, OffShoot Pro introduces an Amazon S3 integration, thereby linking offload workflow directly to the cloud and enabling users to benefit from cloud workflows’ efficiency, priced at USD $249.

Integrating with Cloud Workflows

Acknowledging the prominent role the cloud has assumed in facilitating remote workflows, particularly over the last challenging three years, OffShoot and OffShoot Pro provide integration with iconik, a widely-used hybrid cloud asset management solution. OffShoot enables users to copy cards and transmit media directly to iconik’s Storage Gateway for cataloguing, archiving, and sharing with their team. Additionally, OffShoot and OffShoot Pro present opportunities to upload files to Frame.io via a dedicated watch folder.

Connect 3: Enhanced Notifications and Dashboard

Connect 3 advances Hedge’s comprehensive push notification system and furthers their cloud technology strategy, offering support for Android and iOS devices on 16.4 and above. Users can utilize the web interface to monitor the transfer status on every instance of OffShoot, enabling large organizations to track footage across various locations and better coordinate resources.

Flexible Licensing with OffShoot

OffShoot introduces improved licensing by transitioning to floating licenses, allowing installation on any number of machines and deactivation of licenses from machines not currently in use, providing customers with maximum flexibility and control over their licensing expenses.

Update and Upgrade Path

Existing customers with active support for the current Hedge application will receive OffShoot as a complimentary update. A seamless upgrade path is also available for other customers.
