OFG Customs, a sister entity to the renowned rental house Old Fast Glass, has recently unveiled an innovative custom-made adapter. This new product is designed for the Cooke SP3 25mm T2.4 lens, which was launched not long ago.
By attaching this adapter to the lens, it transforms into an 18.5mm T2.4, expanding its usability. Based in Los Angeles, Old Fast Glass is known for providing high-quality cinema equipment for production needs, boasting an impressive inventory of both vintage and contemporary lenses. Recognizing the potential to share their in-house developed solutions more broadly, OFG Customs aims to distribute their products to cinematographers and rental houses globally. The Cooke SP3 18.5mm Custom Adapter marks the first offering from this newly established venture.
Features of the Cooke SP3 18.5mm Adapter
Following the announcement by Cooke Optics in September about their SP3 series, which includes five full-frame cinema prime lenses for mirrorless cameras, there was a noticeable gap in their range. The SP3 series, which mirrors the aesthetic of the Pancho/i Classic lenses in a compact design, comprises lenses with focal lengths of 25, 32, 50, 75, and 100mm, all with a T2.4 aperture. However, the absence of a wider-angle option presented limitations for cinematographers. This gap is effectively bridged by OFG Customs with their innovative adapter.
In partnership with Duclos Lenses, OFG Customs developed the adapter to attach directly to the Cooke SP3 25mm T2.4 lens through its 64mm filter thread. This combination extends the lens’s field of view to match that of an 18.5mm lens. The construction of the adapter features an aluminum body and incorporates glass elements. These elements are engineered to maintain a balance between image sharpness, field flatness, and flare characteristics, ensuring adherence to the lens’s original visual quality.
While specific details regarding the adapter’s dimensions and weight were not provided, it appears to significantly increase the size of the SP3 lens, which may contradict the series’ compact design ethos. Despite this, the adapter offers a unique solution to augment the SP3 series, enhancing its versatility for cinematographers.
