Leveraging LiveU’s On-Site Solution, Optical Media delivers unparalleled coverage of the renowned yacht race
In a strategic move to enhance its coverage of the world-renowned FastNet Yacht Race, Optical Media employed LiveU’s cutting-edge On-Site Production Solution. Tasked by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, the organizers of this bi-annual offshore spectacle that kicks off at Cowes, Isle of Wight, and concludes in Cherbourg, France, Optical Media aimed to deliver unparalleled coverage, especially of the race’s start.
While RF technology was initially considered, its line-of-sight limitations and potential cost implications led Optical Media to seek a more budget-friendly and integrated alternative. Enter LiveU’s recently unveiled On-Site Production Solution. This innovative tool facilitated bonded wireless transmission from multiple LiveU units directly to the production truck, streamlining the entire process.
With the OB unit strategically positioned next to the Royal Yacht Squadron, the race’s starting point, the three LiveU units ensured seamless connectivity, granting the team the flexibility they needed for top-tier coverage. Light added, “The thing that’s amazing is effectively having full control of a network when you’re on-site, which is incredibly rare. I can’t overstate how cool a solution this is. It allows you to go into any environment. Moving forward we see LiveU as a key partner. Sailing, in particular, is very challenging but LiveU worked seamlessly. We are always working in environments where we don’t have network control. LiveU opens so many doors for us as our rapid growth continues.”
