Osprey Video has joined the GV Media Universe Alliance, Grass Valley’s program to partner with qualified technology companies to help bring cloud-based solutions to media organisations.
In joining the partnership program, Osprey has integrated its Talon 4K encoder lineup with Grass Valley’s Agile Media Processing Platform (AMPP), the world’s most agile production and distribution platform. AMPP supports every aspect of live production, from every point on the planet. That means producers can convene the best team and tech on a per-job basis and quickly deploy custom workflows to suit each project. Users of both Osprey Video and Grass Valley AMPP may now confidently choose the Talon 4K encoders for their cloud-based broadcast contribution workflows knowing that Grass Valley has certified them for compatibility and interoperability.
In the emerging model of dispersed production, crew and talent in multiple locations come together per event. By using AMPP as an API SRT endpoint, the Talon 4K encoders share high-quality video and audio signals between AMPP and a remote location using common streaming transport protocols, such as RTMP, Zixi, and SRT. Essentially, this integration allows media companies to expand their production environment by receiving contributing signals from any location and processing them through AMPP’s many software applications. The AMPP/Talon 4K encoder combination is ideal for broadcast contribution, cloud-based live production, real-time viewing of dailies, remote production, REMI workflows, routing over IP networks, low-latency IP Streams, and SRT streams.
“Osprey’s Talon 4K encoders are perfect for cloud production through AMPP. They are reliable, high-quality, low-latency devices in a small form factor, with silent, fanless operation and an intuitive UI. And at less than $3,000, they are extremely cost-effective,” said Scott Whitcomb, director of worldwide sales at Osprey Video. “By joining the GV Media Universe Alliance, we’re working with Grass Valley to make content creation and distribution far more flexible through a secure, proficient, and well-established network.”
The Talon 4K 10-bit HEVC encoders deliver high-quality, low-latency video in multiple protocols at an affordable price. In the production and distribution workflow, the Talon 4K encoders capture 4K, 10-bit, 4:2:2 video on-premises and transport it through RTMP, Zixi, or SRT protocols for delivery to the cloud, where AMPP then converts, creates, manages, and distributes the content.
AMPP provides content creators the technology path they need to succeed in the ever-changing media and entertainment landscape. Providing solutions that cover the entire media production chain, AMPP’s modular architecture, seamless operation between hardware and software, and open ecosystem allow users to easily choose the best tools for their specific workflow when they need them. Solutions running on AMPP are frame-accurate, responsive, and compatible with familiar control surfaces and applications, thereby reducing the typical live-production challenges of frame-accurate signal timing, signal distribution, and automated workflows.
“Keeping pace with the demands of content creation is already challenging,” said Chris Merrill, director of strategic marketing at Grass Valley. “Opening AMPP to industry-recognized companies like Osprey Video means our customers don’t have to learn new technology. Integration with AMPP makes the transition to a new platform transparent to the talented people using our solutions. They get all the benefits of scalability, working from anywhere, and the ability to pay for what they need without having to learn new creative tools.”
The Talon 4K-SC and Talon UHD-SC encoders are available for purchase through authorized resellers or directly from Osprey Video. Osprey Video also offers custom OEM options.
