Panasonic: Firmware Enhances Camera Features

Panasonic: Firmware Enhances Camera Features

Panasonic has revealed plans to release new firmware updates for its LUMIX S5 II and S5 IIX cameras, aimed at boosting efficiency in both production and post-production workflows.

These updates are scheduled to be available at no cost from April 22, 2024.

Camera to Cloud Integration via Adobe’s Frame.io

The firmware updates will incorporate a new feature that supports Adobe Camera to Cloud functionality, allowing for automatic uploading, backing up, and sharing of images and videos through the cloud. This integration facilitates real-time feedback and collaborative editing by connecting directly to Frame.io over Wi-Fi or USB tethering.

Introduction of Proxy Video Recording

A significant addition is the Proxy Video Recording feature, which allows the cameras to record a low bit-rate proxy video file alongside the original high-quality video. This proxy file is linked to the original, enabling faster and more efficient data transfers and editing processes.

Upgrades to Real-time Autofocus Recognition

The firmware enhances the existing Phase Hybrid autofocus system of the cameras. It now includes capabilities to more accurately recognize and track not just human subjects, but also animals, cars, and motorcycles, making it ideal for diverse shooting scenarios, including wildlife and motorsports.

Enhancements to Electronic Image Stabilization

The updates also improve the Electronic Image Stabilization (E.I.S.) system by adding a High mode to the E-Stabilization (Video) function, which helps correct severe camera shakes during dynamic shooting situations. Additionally, a new perspective distortion correction feature has been introduced, particularly beneficial when using wide-angle lenses.

SH Pre-Burst Shooting Mode

Another new feature is the SH Pre-Burst Shooting mode, which begins recording bursts of images from the moment the shutter button is half-pressed. This allows photographers to capture moments retroactively right up to the full press of the shutter button, ensuring critical moments are not missed.
