Panasonic has recently launched the second version of its G9 camera, a micro four-thirds mirrorless model, in the United States. This upgraded camera, the Panasonic Lumix G9 II, boasts an impressive 25.2 micro four-thirds sensor and a new Venus Processing engine, targeting content creators who specialize in 4K video production for various platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
A standout feature of the G9 II is its ability to record cinematic 10-bit 4K videos. It also supports anamorphic lenses, facilitating the creation of vertical videos and offering diverse filming angles through a special frame marker function. The camera ensures exceptional video quality with accurate color reproduction and rich skin tones.
For stabilization, the G9 II utilizes Panasonic’s advanced Phase Hybrid AF autofocus system for rapid and precise focusing. Its five-axis sensor-shift Image stabilization, coupled with Dual IS 2, provides up to 8 stops of image stabilization. This feature is enhanced with the camera’s 2-axis Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) when used with Lumix lenses. Additionally, Panasonic introduces Boost IS and Active IS technologies for digital image stabilization and correcting shake during motion shots.
The camera also features AI-powered object recognition technology, capable of identifying and tracking various subjects including humans, animals, and vehicles. It includes an advanced Focus Transition function for smooth focus shifts, ideal for professional rack focus effects.
In terms of video capabilities, the G9 II offers DCI 4K and UHD 4K 60p recording with unlimited 4:2:2 10-bit color. It also supports C4K/4K 120p video capture in 4:2:0 10-bit color, perfect for high frame rate and slow-motion videos. A unique frame marker indicator allows for easy cropping of vertical videos, and the camera comes with V-Log preinstalled for capturing a wide dynamic range, further adjustable in post-production. The camera also supports ProRes 422 and the installation of real-time LUTs.
Additional user-friendly features include a frame indicator function, a Vertical Position Indicator, Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity, WiFi support, and compatibility with the Lumix Sync App. The camera is equipped with USB-C and HDMI Type-A ports, along with 2.4mm and 3.5mm ports for headphones and microphones.
The Panasonic Lumix G9 II is now available for purchase in the US through Panasonic USA and its authorized dealers, priced at $1897.99.
