Panasonic has released firmware update version 3.0 for the LUMIX GH6, introducing several new features.
The most notable addition is the support for the optional DMW-SFU3A software key, which includes the ARRI LogC3 picture profile.
Initial Features of LUMIX GH6
The Panasonic LUMIX GH6, launched in February 2022, is the successor to the renowned LUMIX GH5 in the Micro Four Thirds category. It initially offered impressive features, such as 5.7K30P ProRes 422HQ internal recording, 5.7K60P in H.265, a full-size HDMI port, unlimited recording with an active cooling fan, among others.
Firmware Updates Over the Years
Over time, Panasonic has released multiple firmware updates for the LUMIX GH6. These updates have added capabilities like ProRes RAW external recording, direct SSD recording via USB, BRAW external recording, 4K 120P recording, and recently, LiDAR-based autofocusing when used with the DJI RS3 Pro gimbal.
Announcement of LUMIX GH7 and Additional Features
Recently, Panasonic introduced the LUMIX GH7, which surprised the filmmaking community with features such as internal ProRes RAW recording and 32-bit float audio recording. One significant update was the addition of the ARRI LogC3 picture profile via a paid upgrade key. Panasonic has extended this support to the LUMIX GH6 users as well.
ARRI LogC3 Support for LUMIX GH6
Panasonic’s free firmware update version 3.0 for the LUMIX GH6 includes support for the DMW-XLR2 microphone adapter (excluding the 32-bit float recording feature) and improvements in operational stability. The key addition is the “Activation” function, allowing users to enter the optional DMW-SFU3A software key. This key adds the ARRI LogC3 picture profile to the camera’s “photo styles.”
Similar to the LUMIX GH7, the ARRI LogC3 curve for the LUMIX GH6 is certified by ARRI. The main difference is that the LUMIX GH6 does not support the “Real Time LUT” function.
Price and Availability
The firmware update version 3.0 for the Panasonic LUMIX GH6 is available for free download. The optional DMW-SFU3A software key is available for preorder at $199.99 and will be available soon.
