LateNiteSoft SL has unveiled Photon 2.0, an advanced version of its iPhone app, Photon Camera.
This app is tailored for photographers seeking full manual control over their photos. It distinguishes itself with features like 3D white balance control, aiming to enhance color accuracy in photography.
Leveraging iPhone 15 Pro’s Capabilities
The release of the iPhone 15 Pro series has marked a significant milestone in the realm of mobile filmmaking, courtesy of features such as Apple ProRes Log and the ability to record directly to external SSDs. These advancements not only position the iPhone 15 Pro as a formidable tool for videography but also elevate its potential for high-quality photography. In response, companies like LateNiteSoft are developing apps that harness the power of these smartphones, with Photon 2.0 being a prime example.
Enhancements in Photon 2.0
Photon Camera provides users with comprehensive manual controls, including focus, ISO, shutter speed, and white balance, packaged within a user-friendly, minimalistic interface. It supports various file formats such as RAW, ProRAW, HEIF, and JPG and comes equipped with features like live exposure feedback, histogram, and focus peaking. Over the past six months, the app has seen twenty updates, adding functionalities like clipping detection, timer, focus lapse, burst mode, and the ability to save photos directly to disk.
Focus on Color Accuracy
The standout feature of Photon 2.0 is its emphasis on white balance improvement. The update introduces a tactile 3D ball, utilizing the iPhone’s haptic feedback for color adjustment. This innovative tool allows users to modify colors by rotating the wheel or using arrows for finer tuning, covering a wide range of color temperatures as well as green and magenta tints.
Moreover, Photon 2.0 integrates automatic white balance detection through a grey card function. By selecting the manual white balance mode and tapping the grey card option, the app automatically adjusts colors based on an 18% grey card. This feature is particularly beneficial in challenging lighting conditions, ensuring accurate color representation in photographs.
