Pixotope, known for its virtual production solutions, has launched Pixotope Pocket, a mobile application now available to the general public for free.
Originally exclusive to participants of the Pixotope Education Program, the app aims to simplify the creation of immersive content. It provides access to augmented reality (AR) and virtual studio (VS) technologies. To use the app, an individual needs an iOS smartphone, a Windows-based PC, and a Pixotope Graphics license.
Expanding Beyond Education
According to David Dowling, the Chief Revenue Officer at Pixotope, Pixotope Pocket has evolved from its educational beginnings to become a valuable asset for content creators across the board. The app makes it easier for users to experiment with and evaluate virtual environments, improving the efficiency of pre-production and the overall virtual production workflow. With Pixotope Pocket, content creators can work remotely with just their smartphone and a computer, eliminating the need for a studio setting.
How Pixotope Pocket Works
Pixotope Pocket simplifies the process of filming and virtual production by using the smartphone’s camera for footage while handling camera tracking. This is achieved through a combination of device motion tracking, camera scene capture, and advanced scene processing. The app sends video and tracking information to a local computer equipped with Pixotope Graphics software via an SRT stream over a local network, negating the need for professional broadcast cameras or specialized tracking equipment.
The Vision for Pixotope Pocket
Pixotope’s vision for the app is to make advanced virtual production technologies available to a wider range of creatives, from camera operators interested in AR visualization to social media content creators looking to push the boundaries of storytelling. Dowling expresses enthusiasm for the app’s potential to influence the future of virtual production by enabling professionals to leverage technology in new and innovative ways.
