PORTKEYS, a company recognized for producing cost-effective monitors, has introduced a groundbreaking update named MOVNORM OS.
This new user interface system is offered as a free firmware upgrade compatible with several models including the PT6, LH7H, LH7P, and LH5PII (V3). Designed exclusively for models supporting HDMI, this update signifies a notable advancement in the usability and functionality of PORTKEYS monitors.
User-Centered Design
The development of MOVNORM OS is a result of extensive user feedback from across the globe. The operating system boasts a redesigned interface aimed at simplifying navigation and reducing the need for multiple gestures. Accessing the menu is now more intuitive, with a touch on the screen bringing up a bottom toolbar for quick access to favorites and monitoring tools. Adjustments to the monitor’s backlight level can be easily made via a new brightness adjustment slider.
Enhanced Connectivity and Control
A notable addition to the user interface is the status bar located in the top right corner, which displays important information such as battery level, HDMI connection status, and the activation of 3DLUTs. It also shows whether a compatible camera is connected and its battery status.
Another innovative feature is the stretching leg tool, particularly useful for vertical content creation, allowing users to elongate the image below a set line. This feature is essential for live-streaming scenarios, enabling the output of modified images through HDMI.
Improved Camera Control and Compatibility
MOVNORM OS not only enhances the interface but also expands camera compatibility and control. The update brings WiFi and Bluetooth support for a range of new cameras from major brands like Canon, Panasonic, Sony, and Blackmagic Design. For the LH7P and LH5P II (v3), the Camera Control UI has been improved, offering easier access through swipes or via the status bar.
Future Updates and Additional Features
For monitors supporting both HDMI and HD-SDI inputs/outputs, PORTKEYS plans to release another update, CINENORM OS, in the near future. MOVNORM OS also introduces new Camera Control features for Sony cameras, including a memory card status display, a redesigned Rec trigger button with a recording time indicator, focus mode selection, zoom adjustment, and the ability to assign camera parameters to the monitor’s physical function buttons.
This update reinforces PORTKEYS’s commitment to enhancing the functionality of their products and supporting their customer base by adding significant value to existing models through software updates.
