Shakespeare’s Globe in London, a renowned performing arts venue, has recently upgraded its communication systems by installing Riedel Communications’ Bolero intercom system in its two theaters, the Globe and the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. The Bolero system offers high-quality audio and seamless roaming, which significantly improves communication during live performances, aiding stage management, rehearsals, and show operations.
Charli Hurford, Senior Technician at Shakespeare’s Globe, highlighted the impact of the Bolero system, noting its excellent range and clarity. This has revolutionized their performance management processes, providing a high level of efficiency during technical rehearsals and live shows. The system’s easy-to-use features have minimized the need for troubleshooting, enhancing the technical team’s productivity.
The implementation of the Bolero system has streamlined operations at Shakespeare’s Globe, leading to more effective use of resources and reducing the number of required antennas from nine to three. This optimization not only saves time but also reduces costs by lowering the need for additional technical staff during rehearsals.
The Bolero system has proven particularly beneficial in complex productions, like the Winter’s Tale, which took place across both the Globe Theatre and the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Its reliability is also evident in large-scale filmed events, where clear and uninterrupted communication is crucial.
Shakespeare’s Globe selected the Bolero intercom system for its proven effectiveness in similar show settings, compliance with industry standards, and the strong support provided by Riedel Communications. The system has become an integral part of the theater’s operations, significantly aiding the stage management teams in delivering clear and efficient performances.

Riedel Communications looks forward to continuing this partnership and supporting future projects at Shakespeare’s Globe.
