Riedel Communications played a key role in the U.S. Team Swimming Trials held in Indianapolis by providing essential intercom technology.

Dodd Technologies, responsible for event production, utilized the upgraded Riedel Artist-1024 digital intercom matrix, Bolero wireless intercom, and SmartPanel interfaces to manage communications throughout the event. This setup enabled seamless coordination, ensuring a smooth broadcast and streaming experience for the global audience.

Efficient Communication at Lucas Oil Stadium

The trials took place from June 15-23 at Lucas Oil Stadium, a venue temporarily transformed into the world’s largest aquatic arena. Dodd Technologies relied on both its Riedel systems and the stadium’s existing Riedel infrastructure to manage the complex event. The Artist-1024 system, replacing the previous Artist-32 setup, allowed Dodd Technologies to handle communications for a larger team and within a more extensive venue, which saw a record attendance of 20,689 fans and over 285,000 total viewers.

System Integration and Performance

Dodd Technologies’ team, led by audio engineer Caleb Cassler, successfully integrated the Artist-1024 with both the stadium’s in-house Riedel system and the broadcaster’s OB truck. The system’s scalability and flexibility were crucial for effective communication across the large event space. The Bolero wireless system also provided clear audio and water resistance, essential for the team working around the pool area.

Challenges Overcome in a Complex Environment

The RF spectrum in downtown Indianapolis presented significant challenges due to the high number of channels and nearby productions. However, the Bolero system performed reliably in this demanding environment. The Riedel system’s quick setup and integration allowed the team to focus on optimizing the communication system rather than troubleshooting technical issues.

Riedel’s Continued Partnership with Dodd Technologies

James Skupien, Regional Sales Manager at Riedel Communications, noted that the upgrade to Artist-1024 provided Dodd Technologies with the scalability and flexibility needed to integrate with both in-house and external systems efficiently. The new system allowed for the design of larger, more complex communication setups while maintaining high audio quality and reducing setup time.
