New RiCapture Models by Riedel Communications at NAB Show 2024

Riedel Communications has introduced three new models to its RiCapture ingest solutions lineup during the 2024 NAB Show.

The new models—RiCapture i8, i44, and i84—join the existing RiCapture i4, enhancing the line with higher channel density, Ultra-High Definition (UHD) resolution capabilities, and support for 8- and 10-bit video. These models also feature increased storage capacities with expanded internal SSD options and deliver a host of advanced functionalities.

Advanced Interface and Functionality

The newly integrated SSE interface facilitates scheduling, streaming, and exporting tasks, streamlining multichannel High Definition (HD) and UHD ingest recording, and connectivity with postproduction workflows. The SSE application enables versatile configuration settings, allowing users to choose from high-resolution DNxHD/R, H.264, or a hybrid of these formats. Additionally, the system incorporates audio-mapping and down-mix audio-listening features.

Enhanced Channel and Audio Capabilities

The updated RiCapture models differ in input capabilities. The i4 and i8 models provide four and eight HD High Dynamic Range (HDR) input channels, respectively, while the i44 and i84 offer four UHD channels with HDR support. All devices in the RiCapture series support 16 channels of embedded audio per video channel, alongside 64 Dante or AES67 audio channels.

Recording and Streaming Options

RiCapture devices maintain high-quality recording in DNxHD or DNxHR, as well as H.264 with 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 encoding, directly to local storage. These systems enable continuous loop recording and feature versatile streaming options, including manual initiation, scheduled streaming, and file clipping for export.

Additional Software Features

The RiCapture lineup is complemented by three software enhancements: the VDR panel, a web-based interface that offers expanded control for various playback scenarios; the RiView application, a multiviewer interface for synchronized media review; and the XDCAM add-on for tapeless HD video acquisition.

Market Reach and Versatility

According to Bernard Stas, Product Manager for Live Video Production at Riedel Communications, the expanded RiCapture product line is designed to meet the needs of various markets, including sports, concerts, theater productions, and film. The devices support multiple frame rates, such as 23.98 fps and 29.97 fps, positioning the RiCapture family as a leading choice for high-quality ingest solutions at a competitive price point.
