Riedel Communications Enhances Live Production Portfolio with RiMotion R10.

Maria: Riedel’s RiMotion R10 Replay Solution expands its live production range, offering up to eight multi-format camera inputs and two outputs in a 1RU server, combining high channel density with affordability. So Mary, I know you had questions about that.
Mary: I do. Phillip, with several new players in this area, do you think this is becoming a significant category? And are there features missing that you’d like to see in this equipment?
Philip: Yeah, it’s quite interesting. This field was originally dominated by EVS, known for live instant replay. Then Evertz introduced a more affordable JPEG 2000 based solution. Now, with Riedel entering the scene, and likely more to follow, the landscape is changing. What I’d like to see in these systems is simplicity. Instant replay, primarily used in live sports, requires a significant team. It’s challenging for one person to manage multiple machines, selecting and cropping scenes, and coordinating with the producer, director, and technical director for playback. The capability of these systems to handle numerous camera inputs is making them more versatile. I foresee AI playing a role soon, both in converting lower frame rate footage into higher frame rate and in assisting with shot selection. It’s fascinating to see new players in this market, especially considering it was Harris who initiated this but is no longer in the game. I’m eager to see how AI will aid in shot selection, recognizing player movements, and making the process more manageable. We’re definitely heading towards more sophisticated processing.
