Radio Televisión Nacional de Colombia (RTVC), Colombia’s national radio and television broadcaster, has selected DHD SX2 audio production consoles for its newly renovated studios in Barranquilla, the capital city of the Atlántico region.

RTVC’s Background

Established in October 2004, RTVC operates four free-to-air television stations and two radio networks. Radio Nacional de Colombia is a general infotainment channel, and Radiónica is a youth-oriented station dedicated to Colombian music, both transmitted nationwide.

Project Overview

The project was negotiated and completed by Bogota-based broadcast systems specialist ASPA ANDINA.

“This new system aligns with RTVC’s decentralization policy and enhances accessibility to the broadcaster’s Atlántico region facility through a secure digital audio network,” stated Juan Pablo León, ASPA ANDINA’s Technical Director, Commercial.

Studio Integration

Three studios have been integrated with DHD SX2 audio production consoles, all interconnected via Dante-format audio-over-IP.

  1. Main Studio: Assigned to Radio Nacional de Colombia, equipped with an SX2 mixer including 16 motorized faders.
  2. Second Studio: A multipurpose resource for the Radionica network and shareable production facility, featuring an SX2 mixer with 10 motorized faders.
  3. Third Studio: Designed for routine recording and production, equipped with a four-fader SX2 mixer.

Additionally, DHD’s Assist App allows remote support from technicians, and independent level control jacks support hearing-impaired operators.

Technical Details

Two DHD XC3 cores provide processing power to the desktop consoles. One core supports the main studio, while the other supports the second and third studios.

Previous Projects and Trust

This project follows a recent partnership with RTVC in equipping the network’s peace stations in Fundación, Tumaco, San José del Guaviare, and San Vicente del Caguán. “We are privileged to be part of the history, present, and future of Colombian radio,” León added.

DHD SX2 Mixer Features

Based on a four-fader central module, DHD SX2 mixers can expand with additional six-fader modules to support up to 16 faders. Central and fader modules each feature a 10.1-inch multi-touch display. All faders are motorized, and the central module provides access to crucial audio inputs and outputs.

DHD XC3 IP Core

The DHD XC3 IP core is designed for on-air radio and television studios, supporting up to 48 stereo faders, 72 stereo buses, and 16 channels of AES67 IP audio. IPx expansion modules can accommodate 128 channels of AES67/Ravenna IP audio in/out and up to 512 Dante channels.

DHD Assist App

The DHD Assist app is a browser-based application that allows secure network-connected technicians to provide onsite or remote support to presenters during their daily production activities.

Inclusivity Commitment

“RTVC’s commitment to hearing-impaired inclusivity is a particularly pleasing aspect of this project,” commented Marc Herrmann, DHD Audio Managing Director.

This aligns with a previous SX2 console installation project for Israel’s Center for Accessible Culture, supporting visually-impaired operators.

RTVC’s integration of DHD SX2 audio production consoles demonstrates its commitment to decentralization, inclusivity, and the enhancement of its broadcasting facilities throughout Colombia.
