Samsung Launches 990 EVO M.2 SSD: High-Speed, Enhanced Security, and Up to 2TB Capacity

Samsung has recently released their new 990 EVO M.2 Internal Solid State Drives (SSDs), available in 1TB and 2TB storage capacities.

These SSDs are crafted to cater to the needs of content creators and gamers, aiming to provide a reliable and efficient storage solution for daily use.

Enhanced Speed and Compatibility
The 990 EVO SSDs are equipped with PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 5.0 x2 compatible M.2 2280 slots. They utilize NVMe 2.0 technology, boasting impressive speeds of up to 5000 MB/s for sequential reads and 4200 MB/s for sequential writes. These speeds are approximately 43% and 30% faster than their predecessor, the 970 EVO, for reading and writing respectively.
Improved Power Efficiency and Modern Standby Feature
A significant improvement in power efficiency, around 70% better than the previous model, is another highlight of these SSDs. Additionally, they come with the Modern Standby feature, which allows the SSDs to remain connected and responsive even in low-power modes.
Key Features at a Glance
  • Storage Options: Available in 2TB capacity.
  • Form Factor: M.2 2280.
  • Interface: PCIe 4.0 x4 / 5.0 x2 and NVMe 2.0.
  • Speed: Sequential Reads up to 5000 MB/s and Writes up to 4200 MB/s.
  • Durability: 1200TB TBW (Total Bytes Written) rating.
  • Memory Technology: Samsung V-NAND Flash.
  • Security: AES 256-Bit Encryption.
Ideal for Slim Devices and RAID Systems
The design of the SSD, supporting two PCIe 5.0 lanes, generates less heat compared to x4 drives, making it an excellent choice for ultra-thin laptops. This feature also helps in maintaining consistent performance in most RAID configurations.
Enhanced Security and Longevity
The 990 EVO SSDs offer advanced security options, including AES-256 encryption, accessible through TCG/Opal 2.0 and MS eDrive standards. Furthermore, the high 1200TB TBW rating ensures these SSDs have a prolonged operational lifespan, affirming their reliability and durability for users.
