M. Scott Havens, previously the CEO of Bloomberg Media, is set to leave the company to join the New York Mets as their president of business operations. This change will take effect from January.

Mike Bloomberg, the majority owner of Bloomberg L.P., expressed his appreciation for Havens’ significant contributions during a crucial transition period at Bloomberg Media over the past two years. Bloomberg also shared his enthusiasm about Havens joining a prominent New York sports team, acknowledging the role in enhancing the city’s cultural and economic landscape. He humorously noted that he might now be seen wearing a Mets cap more often, despite his general support for all New York teams.

In his new position with the Mets, Havens will be responsible for strategic and operational leadership, excluding baseball operations. He will directly report to the Mets’ owner, chairman, and CEO, Steve Cohen.

Steve and Alex Cohen, the owners of the Mets, expressed excitement about Havens joining their team. They highlighted his extensive experience in leading top-tier media and digital companies, like Bloomberg Media and Time Inc. They anticipate that Havens will bring a fresh, modern approach and strategic direction to the Mets organization.

Havens shared his excitement about fulfilling a lifelong dream by joining the Mets. He aims to build on the existing progress, focusing on modernizing strategies across the organization, driving digital and media innovations, and enhancing the fan experience. He expressed gratitude to Steve and Alex Cohen for this opportunity.

Havens joined Bloomberg in 2015 as the global head of digital and has been instrumental in the company’s significant revenue and audience growth, along with its global expansion. Before Bloomberg, he was the senior vice president of digital at Time Inc., managing operations and developing digital products for various publications. He also played a pivotal role at The Atlantic, contributing to the digital launches of The Atlantic Wire, Quartz, and CityLab, which Bloomberg Media later acquired in 2019. Havens also has experience as the executive director at Condé Nast Business Media.
