ISE 2024, the world’s leading pro AV and systems integration exhibition, has announced that acclaimed filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will be its Opening Keynote speaker.
Recognized for her Oscar-winning documentaries “Saving Face” and “A Girl In The River: The Price Of Forgiveness,” Obaid-Chinoy will delve into the significance of storytelling and its intersection with technology.
Obaid-Chinoy’s achievements are notable. She’s the first filmmaker from Pakistan to win an Oscar and the first female director to earn two Oscars by the age of 37. Additionally, she has received four Emmy Awards, the Knight International Journalism Award, the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Pakistan’s second-highest civilian honor), and was featured in TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people list.
Storytelling is a central theme of ISE 2024, reflecting its importance in the audiovisual industry. Whether it’s immersive experiences, corporate presentations, or digital advertising campaigns, storytelling is a driving force. Obaid-Chinoy’s work exemplifies the profound impact of storytelling on audiovisual innovation.
Mike Blackman, Managing Director of Integrated Systems Events, shared his excitement about the announcement: “Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is an exceptional addition to ISE 2024. Her groundbreaking work and advocacy for positive change have left an indelible mark on the film industry and society at large.”
Obaid-Chinoy’s influence transcends her films. After her Oscar win for “A Girl In The River,” which tackled the sensitive issue of honour killings, she met with the Prime Minister of Pakistan. This meeting played a role in the passage of the country’s honour killing bill.
More recently, Obaid-Chinoy directed episodes of Marvel’s “Ms. Marvel” in 2022, spotlighting the MCU’s first Muslim character, Kamala Khan. These episodes were highlighted by The New York Times in their annual TV list. Furthermore, she’s set to make history again as the first woman to direct a Star Wars film, featuring Daisy Ridley, slated for a 2026 release.
The ISE 2024 Opening Keynote with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is on Tuesday, 30 January. More details about ISE 2024 events will be unveiled soon.
