DaVinci Resolve Studio in Full Workflow for NEON’s Shelby Oaks

Blackmagic Design reported that the upcoming NEON film Shelby Oaks used DaVinci Resolve Studio during all stages of production.

The software supported camera tests, look development, dailies work, final grading and finishing.

Film Overview

Shelby Oaks follows a woman searching for her missing sister, a YouTuber known for covering paranormal topics. After NEON acquired the film, it became the debut feature of YouTuber and film critic Chris Stuckmann, with actors Camille Sullivan, Keith David, Brendan Sexton III and Michael Beach in leading roles.

Workflow in Preproduction and Production

Director of Photography and colorist Andrew Scott Baird used DaVinci Resolve Studio from early preproduction to develop the visual style. Editors Patrick Lawrence and Brett W. Bachman, ACE, used the platform for proxy workflow and online editing.

Color Work and Conform

After shooting, Baird performed color correction, conforming and international delivery preparation in DaVinci Resolve Studio. The final look was based on a custom 2383-inspired powergrade refined during postproduction.

Baird transitioned from HD Rec.709 proxies to ACES for online work and VFX processing. When NEON required an HDR version, Baird completed the HDR pass in ACES and switched to DaVinci Wide Gamut for final delivery.
