Atomos has released a significant update for its Shinobi II monitor, introducing new features such as Touch to Focus on select cameras, camera control for Fujifilm and Nikon models, and advanced exposure tools like ARRI False Color and EL ZONE colorized exposure modes.

The Shinobi II, a lightweight 5-inch HDR monitor with 1500nit brightness, has been popular among vloggers, filmmakers, and photographers. Initially launched in July, it supported recent cameras from Canon, Panasonic, Sony, and Z CAM via USB-C and serial cables. With the release of firmware version 11.02.00, Shinobi II now expands its compatibility to include Fujifilm and Nikon hybrid mirrorless cameras, adding more versatility for users.

Touch to Focus Feature

A highly requested feature, Touch to Focus, has been added to the Shinobi II’s functionality. This allows users to set the camera’s focus point directly through the monitor’s touch screen. Supported cameras include Canon’s EOS R6 Mark II, Panasonic’s LUMIX S5 II & S5 II X, Sony’s A7 IV, A7S III & ZV-E10 II, and Fujifilm’s GFX100 II & X-S20.

Shutter Release Button for Photographers

With its popularity among photographers, Shinobi II’s new firmware also includes a dedicated Shutter Release button for photo mode. This feature replaces the video record trigger, enabling users to capture images directly from the monitor, which is particularly useful for HDR bracketing and focus stacking.

Enhanced Exposure Tools

The firmware update also brings professional-level tools to the Shinobi II, including ARRI False Color and EL ZONE colorized exposure modes, previously only available on the Ninja and Shogun monitor-recorders. These features enhance exposure control, making the monitor more versatile for both photographers and filmmakers.
