Shure has recently broadened its SLX-D Digital Wireless series, introducing the SLX-D Portable Systems. This expansion includes the SLXD5 Portable Digital Wireless Receiver and the SLXD3 Plug-On Digital Wireless Transmitter.
These new offerings are specifically tailored for the needs of the film, electronic newsgathering, broadcast, and video production sectors.
High-Quality and Reliable Performance
The SLX-D Portable Systems are designed to provide scalable and high-quality wireless digital audio, ensuring dependable RF performance suited for professional use. Nick Wood, Senior Director of Professional Audio Products at Shure, emphasized that the SLX-D line, since its 2020 debut, has been highly regarded for its reliable wireless operation and clear digital audio. The new portable systems aim to extend this quality and reliability to professionals in more demanding environments.
SLXD5: Versatile and Feature-Rich Receiver
The SLXD5 model is a compact version of the SLX-D wireless receiver, suitable for on-camera mounting or inclusion in an audio bag. It supports IR Sync for quick pairing with transmitters and offers a Multi-Mic Mode for handling multiple sound sources. Key features include:
- Content creation suitability: ideal for videos and interviews.
- WL185 Cardioid Lavalier Microphone compatibility.
- Robust and ergonomic bodypack transmitter.
- 1-Channel receiver adaptable for camera or audio bag.
- 118 dB dynamic range with 24-bit audio quality.
- Reliable predictive-diversity antennas.
- 44 MHz bandwidth supporting 1760 frequencies.
- Multi-Mic Mode for complex audio setups.
SLXD3: Adaptable Plug-On Transmitter
The SLXD3 transmitter, equipped with an XLR input, is versatile enough to turn any XLR microphone, including dynamic and condenser types, into a wireless device. It offers phantom power and is particularly suitable for use with boom-mounted shotgun microphones.
Enhanced Audio and Operational Efficiency
Both SLX-D Portable models feature 24-bit digital audio with over 118db dynamic range, eliminating the need for adjusting gain settings on the transmitter. They ensure robust UHF-band RF performance with 32 channels per 44MHz band and a transmission range of up to 330 feet (100 meters).
User-Friendly Setup and Monitoring
Shure has streamlined the setup process for the SLX-D Portables. The SLXD5 receiver can automatically scan and pair with the best frequency quickly, thanks to its IR Sync feature. Both models are equipped with high-luminosity OLED screens for monitoring battery life, audio, and RF quality, as well as frequency tuning. Additionally, the SLX-D Setup Guide provides easy access to educational and instructional content.
Versatile Powering Options
The SLX-D Portable units are compatible with Shure’s range of rechargeable accessories, including the SB903 Lithium-Ion battery and USB-C charging. The Shure SBC-DC-903, a DC battery eliminator kit, offers continuous power for the SLXD5 receiver from various DC sources, including AC/DC wall adapters or portable power distribution systems.
