Shure, a leading professional audio company, recently highlighted its involvement and contributions to the U.S. National Spectrum Strategy.
This strategy, developed by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) in partnership with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), aims to explore new uses for over 2,700 MHz of spectrum by both private and government entities. Shure stood out as the sole company to provide insights specifically on the requirements of wireless audio during the strategy’s formulation.
The company expressed its appreciation for the NTIA and FCC’s efforts in creating the strategy and valued the chance to offer its perspective. Shure emphasized its commitment to representing the wireless microphone community and content creators in regulatory discussions. The company has been actively engaged in dialogues about the Wireless Multi-channel Audio System (WMAS) and other technologies, demonstrating its dedication to efficient use of spectrum and compatibility with various systems.
In its feedback to the National Spectrum Strategy, Shure outlined four critical points:
- Emphasizing the significance of Program Making & Special Events (PMSE), including wireless microphones and In-Ear Monitor systems, to the U.S. economy.
- Advocating for ongoing access to spectrum around 1 GHz, crucial for the future of audio PMSE.
- Recognizing that future technologies might not fully resolve the challenges posed by limited spectrum availability.
- Supporting the concept of spectrum sharing.
Prakash Moorut, Shure’s Global Head of Spectrum & Regulatory Affairs, emphasized the importance of considering spectrum needs to support events and content creation, crucial economic sectors. He also stressed the need for the U.S. to maintain its leadership in spectrum sharing, which facilitates various applications like PMSE.
Additionally, Shure is demonstrating the use of spectrum in wireless audio products to international regulators at the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-23) in Dubai, which concludes on December 15.
