SIGMA’s Latest 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art Lens Priced at $1,199

SIGMA has introduced its latest flagship lens, the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art, which is available in L-Mount and Sony E-mounts.

This new model incorporates advanced technologies in both design and production, significantly evolving from its predecessor.

Lens Construction

The lens features a construction of 19 elements in 15 groups, including 6 FLD elements, 2 SLD elements, and 5 aspherical elements. The angle of view ranges from 84.1° to 34.3°. It has 11 diaphragm blades, a minimum aperture of F22, and a minimum focusing distance of 17cm (wide) to 34cm (telephoto). The maximum magnification ratio is 1:2.7 (wide) to 1:4 (telephoto). The filter size is 82mm, and the dimensions are 87.8mm in diameter and 120.2mm in length. The lens weighs 745g.

Improvements and Enhancements

Compared to the previous model, the new SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art offers improved resolving power throughout the zoom range. It also features functional enhancements such as an aperture ring and high-speed autofocus with a redesigned AF motor, the High-response Linear Actuator (HLA). The lens is approximately 7% smaller and 10% lighter, weighing 745g (1.64 lb).

Optical Construction

The lens includes 6 FLD glass elements, 2 SLD glass elements, and 5 aspherical lens elements, which suppress various aberrations throughout the zoom range. Sagittal coma flare and chromatic aberrations are well controlled, ensuring clear images free from color fringing. The optimized aspherical elements help reduce the lens size while maintaining optical quality. Special Nano Porous and Super Multi-layer Coatings minimize flare and ghosting, providing strong backlight resistance for clear and sharp images under any lighting conditions.

Focus Breathing Suppression

The lens is designed to minimize the change in angle-of-view due to focus shift across the zoom range, creating natural-looking focus pulls when recording video.

Close-Up Capability

The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 17cm (6.69 inches) at the wide end and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7, making it suitable for close-up shots in limited spaces.

Manual Aperture Ring

The lens now includes a de-clickable aperture ring, an aperture lock switch, and two customizable AFL buttons. The de-clickable aperture ring allows direct control of the aperture for stills and on-the-fly exposure adjustments when shooting video. The aperture lock switch prevents accidental changes.

Other Features

The lens is equipped with high-speed AF featuring the HLA motor, a dust and splash-resistant structure, a water and oil repellent coating, and a zoom lock switch. The HLA motor increases the maximum drive speed to more than three times faster than the previous model.

Price & Availability

The SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art is available for pre-order at $1,199 USD and will begin shipping on May 30th.
