Simmod Lens has unveiled its innovative Essence Rear Magnetic Filter System, designed to be compatible with the company’s LPL mount conversion kits.

The Canadian manufacturer, recognized for its cine-modding kits that transform photography lenses into cinema-style lenses, has introduced this system to provide filmmakers with more versatile and user-friendly filtering options.

A few months prior, Simmod Lens launched several LPL conversion kits for various lenses, including Canon FD/NFD, Contax Zeiss, Leica R, Mamiya 645, Nikon F, and Olympus Zuiko OM. The LPL mount, initially introduced by ARRI in 2018 alongside the Alexa Mini, was crafted for large-format cinema cameras, succeeding the traditional PL mount. A notable advantage of the LPL mount is its ability to allow the attachment of a magnetic rear filter directly to the lens mount, although the filtering options have been somewhat limited until now.

Once the Magnetic Pilot ring is secured to your lens, it allows the mounting of magnetic rear filters, including those from ARRI and Tiffen, as well as Simmod Lens’s new LPL Essence filters. Simmod Lens has launched two series of rear magnetic filters: the ARIA Black Mist and the ARIA Glisten, available in various strengths. The company has indicated that a clear filter and a selection of ARIA Pearl filters will soon be available.

All filters in the range are said to feature a “Nano resistance coating” to ward off water, oil, and grease, and they are compatible with ARRI Signature primes, according to Simmod Lens.

The Simmod Lens LPL Essence Rear Magnetic Filter system is currently available for purchase. The Magnetic Pilot ring is priced at $25, while each Essence filter is available for $149. This system not only enhances the functionality of the LPL mount but also expands the creative possibilities for filmmakers by providing a wider array of filtering options.
