SIRUI has announced the expansion of its Sniper series with two new fast APS-C prime lenses featuring autofocus.
The new lenses, 16mm and 75mm f/1.2, are compatible with FUJIFILM X, Nikon Z, and Sony E cameras and are available through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.
Previous Releases and Factory Tour
In November of last year, SIRUI introduced its Sniper line, the company’s first autofocus lenses. The initial launch included 23mm, 33mm, and 56mm APS-C primes, all with a fast f/1.2 aperture and AF capability for FUJIFILM, Nikon, and Sony mirrorless cameras. CineD recently provided a behind-the-scenes look at SIRUI’s lens production, including the Sniper primes, during a factory tour.
New Additions: 16mm and 75mm Lenses
With the introduction of the 16mm and 75mm lenses, the Sniper APS-C lens series now comprises:
- 16mm f/1.2 (equivalent to 24mm f/1.8 on full-frame)
- 23mm f/1.2 (equivalent to 35mm f/1.8 on full-frame)
- 33mm f/1.2 (equivalent to 50mm f/1.8 on full-frame)
- 56mm f/1.2 (equivalent to 84mm f/1.8 on full-frame)
- 75mm f/1.2 (equivalent to 113mm f/1.8 on full-frame)
The 16mm lens features a 13-blade aperture, while the 75mm lens has 15 blades. The minimum focusing distances are 0.3m for the 16mm lens and 0.7m for the 75mm lens.
Optics and Autofocus
These lenses include ED and high refractive index glass elements, as well as an HD nano-coating to minimize flare and ghosting. SIRUI claims that distortion and optical aberration are well controlled. The 16mm lens also includes aspherical lenses to reduce its size.
The autofocus system uses an STM motor, providing accurate, quick, and silent AF performance suitable for both stills and video. Focus breathing is minimal according to SIRUI.
Design and Physical Specifications
The new lenses are similar in size and weight to the existing Sniper primes. The 16mm lens weighs 384g and the 75mm lens weighs 466g. Both lenses are 94mm long. Each lens includes a USB-C port for firmware updates and has front filter thread sizes of 58mm (16mm) and 67mm (75mm).
The lenses are available in three color options: black, silver, and white. They are compatible with FUJIFILM X, Nikon Z, and Sony E mounts.
Pricing and Availability
The 16mm and 75mm f/1.2 lenses are available on Indiegogo at early bird prices, 20% off the retail price. Each lens costs $319 during the campaign (retail price $399), and a set of both lenses is priced at $638 (retail price $798). Each lens includes lens caps, a matching-color lens hood, and a carrying pouch (lens case for the two-lens kit).
