SIRUI, known for its innovative lens designs, has announced the launch of its first-ever autofocus lens series – the Sniper.
Announcement of SIRUI’s First Autofocus Lens Series
SIRUI, a company that has been creating innovative lenses, has announced its first autofocus lens series called the Sniper. This series includes three prime lenses: 23mm, 33mm, and 56mm. These lenses are designed to be identical in size and similar in weight, ensuring continuity in both visuals and mechanics.
Transition to Autofocus and Compatibility
The Sniper series is unique for SIRUI as their previous products were manually operated. This new series features lenses with a fast aperture of f/1.2 and is compatible with Sony E-Mount, FUJIFILM X-Mount, and Nikon Z-Mount cameras, covering the APS-C / Super35 format. The series was initially revealed during the CineD IBC event.
Significance in the Lens Market
The significance of the Sniper series lies in its provision of visual and mechanical continuity, a common practice in cine optics but less so in still or hybrid camera systems. While there are examples like Canon’s L series or SIGMA’s ART series, these do not offer the same level of practical similarity. The Sniper series, drawing from SIRUI’s experience in cine optics, aims to offer a similar level of continuity and ease of use as seen in professional cine lens sets.
Design and Features of the Sniper Series
The lenses in the Sniper series are built similarly but have slight differences in weight. The 23mm lens is the lightest at 380 grams, and the 56mm is the heaviest at 422 grams. The weight varies slightly between different camera mounts. All lenses in the series have a 58mm front filter thread, 11 aperture blades for smooth bokeh, and a large focus throw of 360° for precise focusing. They also feature a USB-C port for firmware updates and are available in white, black, or silver with carbon fiber accents.
The Sniper Series as a Unique Option for Hybrid Shooters
SIRUI claims that the Sniper series is the fastest set available for the Sony E, FUJIFILM X, and Nikon Z mount systems. Although other lenses might offer similar or faster apertures, the Sniper series stands out for its continuity and affordability, particularly appealing to hybrid shooters.
