SIRUI 35mm T2.9 1.6x Full Frame Anamorphic Lens

SIRUI has announced its new 35mm T2.9 1.6x Full Frame Anamorphic Lens, which they are touting as being the smallest full-frame anamorphic lens in the world.

A couple of months ago, SIRUI launched the JUPITER 1.6x full-frame anamorphic lenses on Indiegogo and the campaign was successfully funded at 11.832% to be precise!). We also had a chance to take a first look at the 35mm, 100mm, and anamorphic adapter during IBC 2022.

It is interesting to see how many anamorphic options have flooded the market in the last year or so. Competition is always welcome because it helps drive innovation and it brings prices down.

The 35mm T2.9 1.6x lens only weighs 415g in Sony E-mount, 390g in DJI DL mount, and 425g in Canon RF mount

SIRUI states that because of the low weight and compact size of the lens, it is a good option for use on drones and gimbals.

The front barrel is constructed with carbon fiber to be lightweight but durable. Essentially this is a bit of marketing here, as placing a tiny bit of carbon fiber around a metal lens barrel isn’t going to make any huge difference to the weight.

According to SIRUI, the 1.6x squeeze factor provides a more elongated bokeh and a stronger sense of compression than 1.33x. 1.6x is not a very common squeeze factor and although it allows you to use it on a 16:9 sensor, you will be left with a very wide 2.8:1 aspect ratio.

There are two different versions of the lens you can choose from. One delivers the traditional blue streak, while the other is a neutral version where the flares will take on the color of the light source.

The lens features a 58mm front filter thread and a focus rotation of 120 degrees. The minimum focusing distance is 90cm / 35.43″.

This lens is also claimed to be able to maintain a constant 1.6x squeeze ratio at all focusing points, meaning that the subject size doesn’t change as you pull focus.

The lens is available in DJI DL mount, Canon RF mount, and Sony E mount. There is no PL mount available like you will find with the competing lenses from Great Joy and Vazen.
