Preview of SmallRig’s Latest AP-100 FreeRover Carbon Fiber Tripod Kit

The FreeRover Carbon Fiber Photo Tripod Kit AP-100 by SmallRig was unveiled at Inter BEE 2023 in Japan. This tripod is designed for travel, being both lightweight and compact

It boasts a unique one-step tightening and quick adjustment mechanism, which simplifies the process of extending each leg to its full length without the need to release all three locks individually.

Key features of the tripod include:

  • A simple, one-step tightening and fast adjustment system.
  • Durable, yet lightweight carbon fiber legs that can handle a significant load.
  • A sleek, minimalist design that enhances its portability.

Constructed from 1.2mm thick carbon fiber, the tripod is exceptionally light, weighing just 1.38kg (3.04 lbs), yet it can support loads of up to 15kg (33.06 lbs). This makes it suitable for a range of cameras, from mirrorless models to mid-sized digital cinema cameras.

In terms of size, the tripod can extend up to 150cm (59.1 inches) and collapse down to 46cm (18.1 inches). While its ball head is not ideal for video shooting that requires panning and tilting, it is effective for static camera setups.

The ball head is designed for quick release and is compatible with Arca-Swiss and smaller Manfrotto plates. Additionally, the tripod features a quick-adjust center column with a detachable short column for low ground shots, and the legs can be spread wide for low-angle shooting.

Other features include 1/4″-20 threaded holes for attaching accessories and silicone feet with retractable spiked feet for stability on uneven terrain.
