Sony’s latest update for the Airpeak S1 drone includes a new feature called Enhanced Mapping Mission.
This feature enables the drone to automatically fly and map areas using the Airpeak Flight mobile app. It requires the RTK-1 kit and GBL-PX1 Gimbal for operation. Users can now generate 2D ortho maps, 3D models, and point clouds. The mission planning can be done manually or by importing KML files. Additionally, the update allows for the inclusion of high-precision positioning data in the images captured. This data is stored on an SD card in the RTK interface unit and can be associated with the corresponding images using the Airpeak Flight app. The images are organized in separate folders for each flight, making it easier to manage files and carry out projects.
Improved Automatic Return to Home Function The update enhances the Airpeak S1’s Automatic Return to Home (RTH) feature. This feature is designed to automatically bring the drone back to its starting point in cases of low battery or loss of signal. It calculates alternative routes to avoid restricted areas or obstacles. There are two modes available: Basic, which avoids obstacles by moving upwards, and Advanced, which also includes horizontal obstacle avoidance. This feature is important for ensuring the drone’s safe return after completing its aerial tasks.
Direct Repeat Flight for Accurate Path Replication A new feature called “Direct Repeat Flight” has been added, allowing users to accurately repeat a previously flown path. This includes the same gimbal and camera movements, which is useful for tasks that require flying over the same route multiple times or capturing images and videos at consistent intervals.
Expanded Camera Compatibility The firmware update increases the number of high-end cameras that are compatible with the Airpeak S1 drone.
Extended Device Compatibility for Apple Products The firmware update adds support for more Apple products, including:
iPhone SE (3rd generation)
iPhone 14 series (Pro Max, Pro, Plus, and standard)
iPad Air (5th generation), iPad Pro 11-inch (6th generation), iPad (10th generation)
