BRC-AM7: Sony’s Newest 4K PTZ Camera Targets Broadcast and Live Events

Sony has unveiled its latest camera technology, the BRC-AM7, a pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera that promises to enhance video production quality with its state-of-the-art features.

This camera is particularly suited for broadcasting, live events, and sports productions.

Compact and Lightweight Design

The BRC-AM7 stands out as the smallest and lightest PTZ camera with an integrated lens on the market. It measures 168.7mm in width, 225.2mm in height, and 192.3mm in depth, and weighs approximately 3.7kg (8.15lbs). This compact and lightweight design allows for flexible installation and accessibility in various shooting locations.

Advanced Imaging and Optics

Equipped with a 1.0-type 4K Exmor RS CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR image-processing engine, the BRC-AM7 delivers 4K 60p high-resolution imagery with minimal noise. It features 5K oversampling for enhanced 4K video capture and supports HDR imagery. The camera includes a 20x optical zoom lens with Clear Image Zoom technology, which can extend telephoto capabilities up to 30x in 4K and 40x in Full HD.

Innovative Exposure Control

The camera also features a unique electronic variable ND filter that adjusts transmittance from 1/4 to 1/128, allowing users to control exposure without affecting depth of field. Automatic settings are available to adjust light intensity based on environmental conditions.

AI-Powered Auto Framing and Focus

Sony’s PTZ Auto Framing technology, integrated with AI-driven analytics, automatically tracks moving subjects using data about their skeleton, head, face, and clothing. This technology ensures accurate and intuitive framing and focusing, which is essential for dynamic shooting environments.

Enhanced Motion Control

A new pan-tilt mechanism in the BRC-AM7 facilitates rapid, smooth, and silent movements, ranging from 0.004 degrees to 180 degrees per second. This feature is crucial for accurately capturing fast-moving events without disruption.

Compatibility and Integration

The BRC-AM7 seamlessly integrates with Sony’s existing professional camera ecosystem. It supports various color profiles including ITU709 and S-Log, and can be used with Sony’s Master Setup Units and Remote-Control Panels. It also features mounting options for diverse shooting setups, such as ceilings and cranes.

Connectivity and Remote Production

Offering a range of output options, the camera is equipped with 12G-SDI and HDMI for main outputs, and 3G-SDI for monitor outputs. It supports advanced connectivity protocols like SRT, RTMP, and NDI for remote production capabilities. The camera is also compatible with the free-d protocol for use in virtual and augmented reality productions.
