Sony Showcases Wide Array of Filmmaking Technology at BSC Expo 2024

Sony is set to make a significant appearance at BSC Expo 2024, where it will display a comprehensive array of filmmaking technologies.

These include solutions for on-set filming, image and video capture, audio, and postproduction. Highlights of the exhibition will be the newly launched BURANO digital cinema camera, available from mid-February 2024, and the Crystal LED VERONA for Virtual Production. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with these technologies and consult with Sony experts.

Cinema Line Range and Advanced Postproduction Monitor
In addition to BURANO and VERONA, Sony’s exhibit will feature the complete Cinema Line range, catering to filmmakers of all budgets and applications. Also on display will be the BVM-HX3110, a high-end professional postproduction monitor, featuring a dual layer anti-reflection LCD developed by Sony.

Upcoming Firmware Updates and Prototypes Preview
Sony plans to preview the third version of its VENICE 2 camera firmware update. Moreover, the company will showcase early prototypes of upcoming firmware updates for the Cinema Line cameras FX6, FX3, and FX30.

Details of the ILME-FX6 Firmware Update
Expected to release in May 2024 or later, the ILME-FX6 ver.5.0 firmware update will introduce several features:

  • A new 1.5x option in the De-squeeze function.
  • Enhanced Monitor & Control features, including Waveform and False color.
  • A new 709tone preset to facilitate color matching across multiple cameras.
  • Extended lens support, including SEL100400GM & SEL200600G, for improved breathing compensation.

Upgrades for FX3 and FX30 Cameras
Scheduled for release in September 2024 or later, the firmware updates for the FX3 and FX30 cameras will include:

  • A Shutter Angle option.
  • 709tone support.
  • Enhanced support for Live streaming with SRT/RTMP/RTMPS.

Focus on Mobility and Versatility
Sebastian Leske, Head of Cinema Business Development at Sony, emphasized the company’s commitment to mobility and versatility in product design. Sony aims to simplify logistical challenges in filmmaking, enabling storytellers to focus on creativity without the burden of cumbersome equipment. Products like the VENICE Extension System, BURANO, FX9, FX6, and FX3 exemplify this philosophy.

Integration with Third-Party Products
Finally, Sony’s showcase will include third-party solutions like Pomfort Livegrade, a live grade system that integrates seamlessly with remote grading features of Sony’s VENICE 2 cameras.
