Scheduled for August to September 2024, the first major firmware update for the Sony BURANO camera, version 1.1, will be rolled out.
This update will introduce significant enhancements and new features to improve the camera’s functionality and user experience. Key updates include the integration of the S700 Protocol over Ethernet, enabling the remote operation of the camera via Sony’s proprietary system. Additionally, the firmware will introduce a 1.5x de-squeeze option for anamorphic lenses, alongside the inclusion of a Multi Matrix Indicator. The S700 Protocol over Ethernet facilitates the transmission of the S700P protocol over TCP/IP networks, allowing for advanced remote control capabilities.
Planned Enhancements for Future Updates
Details regarding the timing and whether these updates will be offered as free or paid upgrades remain unspecified. Future firmware enhancements are under development with the aim to further expand the BURANO’s capabilities. Notably, these enhancements include the introduction of 4:3 aspect ratio imager scan modes, providing users with more versatility in their shooting formats. Additionally, a 1.8x de-squeeze option for anamorphic lenses is set to be added, improving support for various lens types. Sony also plans to refine the HDMI output functionality to prevent the overlap of camera status information on the monitoring image, ensuring a clearer viewing experience for users.
