Sony Unveils Online Menu Simulator for New BURANO CineAlta Camera

Sony has launched a novel online menu simulator for its latest addition to the CineAlta camera line, the BURANO.

This innovative, free tool is designed to help users familiarize themselves with the menu system of this top-tier digital cinema camera. The BURANO 8.6K full-frame camera, announced in September, marks a milestone as the first camera globally to integrate features such as a PL-mount, In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), built-in Neutral Density (ND) filters, and autofocus capabilities within a single unit. This announcement was accompanied by a detailed first-look interview with Sony representatives and an interview at IBC 2023 with Nobutatsu Takahashi-san, the head of Sony’s Cinema Line.

Shipping Delay and Tutorial Videos

Alister Chapman has recently released a set of official tutorial videos for the BURANO camera. However, it has been reported that the shipping of the first units will face a two-week delay due to technical difficulties, with availability expected by the end of the current month. In the meantime, users are encouraged to explore the camera’s features through the online menu simulator.

Features of the Online Menu Simulator

The online menu simulator is a valuable resource for those looking to gain insights into handling high-end camera systems like the BURANO, particularly for individuals who may not have regular access to such equipment. Sony has previously released menu simulators for other models in their lineup, such as the original VENICE and VENICE 2 cameras, and now adds the BURANO to this list. This simulator allows users to interactively navigate the camera’s menu, adjust settings via touchscreen controls, LCD buttons, and physical buttons on the camera body, making the learning process intuitive, especially for those familiar with Sony’s FX camera line.

Educational Resources

To assist users in understanding the camera’s wide range of recording formats, Sony also offers downloadable BURANO Recording Formats and Recording Times posters. These visual aids are designed to simplify the process of selecting the appropriate recording settings for various filming requirements.
