Sony Adds Wi-Fi and New Features in Camera Remote SDK Version 1.12

Sony has released Version 1.12 of its Camera Remote SDK, introducing a series of new functionalities including Wi-Fi connectivity.

This latest update enhances the remote operation and control capabilities of Sony digital cameras and is designed to increase development efficiency through the use of high-level APIs. The supported camera models now include the Alpha 1, Alpha 7S III, Alpha 7 IV, and the newly added α9 III. This update is particularly beneficial for business-to-business applications such as inspections, surveys, and e-commerce photography.

New Features in Version 1.12

The update brings several improvements, including:

  • Support for Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing for use in environments where wired connections are impractical.
  • Expansion of the camera functions available for automation, with about 100 new types of operations including remote key operations, and additions to the Fn and Custom menus.
  • Enhanced flexibility in storage and settings, enabling users to switch memory card slots and adjust the ISO AUTO limits based on the shooting conditions.
Introduction of Camera Remote Command

Alongside the SDK update, Sony has also introduced the Camera Remote Command, a new capability that facilitates the remote control of a variety of digital cameras across different brands through a Sony-specific extension of the ISO standard Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP). This feature is aimed at developers and integrates easily with existing software, expanding the usability across different camera brands. It is ideal for sectors such as healthcare, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and photobooth photography.

Unified Development Tools

Both the Camera Remote SDK and Camera Remote Command are part of what is now referred to as the Camera Remote Toolkit. This unified suite provides developers with multiple options to choose from, depending on their specific development needs and intended application. This toolkit is available for download at no cost from Sony’s official support page.
