Sony has announced an update to its Creator Cloud service, enabling users to directly upload photos and videos from select cameras to cloud storage.
This feature is accessible through the Creators’ App or the Creators’ Cloud Web platform. Once configured, users can link their camera with the cloud storage, bypassing the need for smartphone transfers. This allows for immediate access to content across devices, facilitating quicker editing workflows.
The service supports high-quality image and video transfers directly to a smartphone via both Wi-Fi and USB cable connections, with the latter offering enhanced stability.
Camera Compatibility and Software Requirements
Initially, the feature is available for the FX3 (Version 5.00 or newer) and FX30 (Version 4.00 or newer) models. Starting in March 2024, additional models including the α1, α9 III, α7S III, and α7 IV will gain compatibility, pending a required software update.
Subscription Plans and Costs
Sony offers four subscription tiers for this service, starting with a complimentary 25 GB plan for owners of eligible cameras. For users with more substantial storage needs, a 500 GB plan is also available.
Enhanced Camera Control via Smartphone
This update also introduces the ability to remotely control cameras using a smartphone. Users can execute remote shootings, perfect for group photos or stable night-time photography, alongside other functionalities such as checking camera status, adjusting settings, and more.
LUT File Importing Made Easy
Creators can now import LUT (Look-Up Table) files to their cameras directly from the cloud storage through their smartphone, eliminating the need for a computer or SD card. However, users must upload LUT files to the Creator Cloud from a PC or tablet before importing them to the camera. This feature supports a range of cameras including the FX3 (Version 4.00 or newer), FX30 (Version 3.00 or newer), along with the α9 III, α7CR, α7C II, and ILX-LR1 models.
