A key component of this partnership includes expanding Sony’s Hawk-Eye Innovations to support NFL officiating and the development of on-field and sideline technologies. One notable innovation is a new coach’s sideline headset, which is scheduled to debut in the 2025 season.

Development of New Coach’s Headset

The NFL and Sony will develop a new headset designed for coach-to-coach communication on the field. This headset will be powered by Verizon Business’ Managed Private Wireless Solution, utilizing Verizon’s 5G network for reliable performance.

Enhancing Accuracy and Fan Engagement

Sony’s Hawk-Eye tracking services will be used to improve the accuracy of critical game elements, such as line-to-gain measurements. Additionally, Sony’s Beyond Sports will leverage its expertise in real-time visualization to engage the next generation of NFL fans.

Sony’s Role in NFL’s Technology Ecosystem

Gary Brantley, the NFL’s Chief Information Officer, emphasized the importance of this partnership in advancing the NFL’s technology ecosystem. The collaboration will include expanding the use of Hawk-Eye technology in the game, deploying new coach’s headsets, and utilizing Sony’s advanced imaging products.

Sony’s Extensive Integration in NFL Games

Sony’s technology has been integrated into NFL games for years, from sideline photography to broadcast cameras and production. This partnership will further solidify Sony’s role in supporting the NFL with technology for officiating, fan experiences, and more.

Next-Generation Officiating Technology

Expanding Sony’s Presence in NFL Stadiums

Sony products and technologies are already used in many NFL stadiums across the United States, with plans for further expansion. The new NFL Network studios in Inglewood, California, have also adopted Sony technology for key operations and cameras.
