Sony’s bespoke broadcast package enhances Vatican Media’s footage quality, ensuring minimal impact on the historic environment.
Sony has fortified its longstanding alliance with Vatican Media, the Vatican’s official broadcasting institution, by revamping its broadcasting system. Vatican Media, formerly known as Centro Televisivo Vaticano, has been dedicated to globally broadcasting the Pope’s activities and the Vatican’s essence. Their mission also includes archiving high-quality footage for historical purposes. To support this, Sony has tailored a package that delivers superior footage quality while preserving the Vatican’s historic ambiance.
This system is particularly considerate of the Vatican’s historic structures. The HDCE-100 unit is compact, noiseless, and easily concealed, with thin optical fiber cables suitable for extended distances.
Sony’s HDC-5500s cameras have replaced older models across the Vatican, offering enhanced image quality and versatility. These cameras, capable of 4K, HD, and HDR filming, are adept at capturing the Vatican’s challenging low-light ambiance. The upgrade also introduced a technique where two camera heads connect to a single cable. Sony PVM-X series monitors oversee these operations, enabling simultaneous comparison in the production suite.
Additionally, Sony’s BRC-H800 PTZ cameras have been discreetly installed in the iconic St Peter’s Basilica. Their compact size and remote controllability eliminate the need for on-site camera operators, offering unique filming angles.
In November 2022, the system was further enhanced with a Sony FX9, ensuring superior image quality and a cinematic touch, capturing the Vatican’s spiritual essence.
