Broadcasting at the Swiss Indoors Basel
Using Appear’s X Platform, spectators at the Swiss Indoors will be able to follow matches in near real-time with high picture quality throughout the venue. The matches will be broadcast on approximately 100 television sets located in various areas such as VIP lounges, press offices, restaurants, exhibition spaces, and spectator stands. R. Geissmann AG is responsible for setting up this broadcasting system in collaboration with Teletrend AG, which helped develop a venue-wide TV signal processing solution.
The X Platform’s Role
The X Platform from Appear provides fast and reliable signal transmission, a critical requirement for live sports events. It is noted for its stability and user-friendly interface, making it suitable for large sports arenas and venues with multiple screens. Andreas Bartels, CTO of R. Geissmann AG, stated that their previous positive experiences with Appear’s products, in partnership with Teletrend AG, led to the selection of this platform for the Swiss Indoors.
Technical Specifications
The broadcast system includes signal acquisition from the control room in HD-SDI quality. The audio and video signals are encoded using Appear’s low-latency H.264 encoders, which convert the signals to IP multicast for distribution across the venue.
Chris Alner, SVP Commercial Director EMEA at Appear, highlighted the role of the X Platform in delivering high-quality, low-latency broadcasts, ensuring reliable coverage for viewers in various parts of the venue.
