TELUS, a leading global communications and technology firm, has embarked on the initial stage of its innovative hybrid-cloud video streaming initiative, leveraging software solutions from Velocix, a renowned provider of carrier-grade cloud TV software.
This project utilizes a dual-platform architecture, incorporating both the Google Cloud Platform and on-site streaming and caching technologies.
Strategic Benefits of Hybrid-Cloud Integration
This venture into hybrid-cloud streaming marks a significant strategic move for TELUS, aiming to reduce delivery costs while increasing scalability. The architecture synergizes the cost-effectiveness and high performance of on-premise solutions with the scalable, globally distributed capabilities of cloud-based services.
Initial Deployment and System Capabilities
In its first phase, TELUS is set to enhance live recording services, such as nPVR, using Velocix’s Hybrid-cloud Origin. Additionally, a Velocix Hybrid-cloud Content Delivery Network (CDN) will complement the Origin system, enabling TELUS to establish a comprehensive cache network across private, public, and edge-cloud infrastructures. This innovative setup allows for on-premise caching to be seamlessly integrated with cloud-based CDN resources, which can be quickly activated to accommodate surges in demand, thereby elevating the efficiency of the streaming platform.
Leadership Commentary
Jim Brickmeier, CEO of Velocix, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with TELUS, highlighting the groundbreaking nature of their hybrid-cloud video solutions. According to Brickmeier, this new architecture is designed to exploit the strengths of diverse deployment environments, assisting global customers in enhancing and profiting from their video services.
