The Teradek Prism Flex Mk II is an enhanced model of its predecessor, the Prism Flex. It is promoted as a versatile encoder for both broadcast and live production purposes.
The device stands out for its ultra-low latency performance and its capability to stream in 4K HDR 4:2:2 10-bit quality within a compact and efficient form factor.
Design and User Interface Enhancements
The latest model boasts a redesigned chassis that not only offers improved cooling but also features an updated front panel. This panel introduces more user-friendly controls, including a D-pad for navigation, enhancing the overall tactile feedback for operators.
Advanced Communication and Streaming Features
One of the significant additions to the Prism Flex Mk II is the analog audio IFB functionality, enabling direct talkback communication through the Teradek Core Cloud. This allows for seamless intercom capabilities with other Prism devices and the Core Cloud platform itself.
Users will appreciate the addition of the Teradek Reliable Transport (TRT) protocol, which promises ultra-low latency video streaming—potentially as low as 100 milliseconds over wide area networks (WAN). Furthermore, the device now supports both encoding and decoding processes simultaneously, thanks to an optional “Decode” license.
The Prism Flex Mk II supports a wide array of protocols, making it adaptable to various streaming requirements. These protocols include SRT, TRT, MPEG-TS, RIST, RTMP, RTSP, HLS, and DASH.
Connectivity and Storage Options
In terms of connectivity, the encoder is well-equipped with a 12G-SDI input and loop-through, an HDMI 2.0 input, dual Ethernet ports, WiFi 6, and two USB ports designed for LTE modems and external storage devices.
The device is lightweight at 11.6 ounces (328.85 grams) and has a maximum power consumption of 24 watts.
Integration with Cloud Platforms and Mobile App Support
The Prism Flex Mk II enhances its functionality by enabling users to record live feeds and upload them directly to cloud platforms like Frame.io and Sony C3P. It also supports secure video distribution feeds through the Teradek Core Cloud platform.
To facilitate device management, Teradek offers a Prism app available for both iOS and Android platforms. This app allows users to configure their encoder, monitor and manage live feeds, and access streaming statistics in real-time. Additionally, the app provides the option to share the user’s mobile 5G or LTE connection with the Prism device for enhanced connectivity.
