Wireless Video Transmission Systems Teradek Ranger Mini and Ranger Mk II Introduced

The Ranger Mini and Ranger Mk II, the newest devices from Teradek, a California-based firm renowned for creating high-quality professional wireless video solutions, were just unveiled. The Ranger Mini is developed for HD transmission, and the Ranger Mk II is made exclusively for 4K transmission. These two new models are intended to provide zero-delay wireless video transmission for live productions. Both models, which incorporate 6GHz technology, are anticipated to provide dependable and excellent wireless video solutions.

Teradek Ranger Series – what is it

The Ranger Mini, which is intended for HD transmission up to 1080p60, and the Ranger Mk II, which can transmit up to 4K60p in HDR, are the two versions included in the most recent release. Moreover, both versions feature a receiver with V-Mount and Gold-Mount choices, as well as three distinct range options: 229m/750ft, 762m/2500ft, and 1524m/5000ft (line of sight).

Wireless video without delay for live production

With a predicted transmission time of just 0.001 seconds and visually lossless image quality when employing AES-256 encryption between the transmitter and the receiver, Teradek claims that the Ranger Mini and Ranger Mk II models offer nearly negligible latency. It would be ideal for live events like television sports broadcasts since it would significantly reduce the average latency time of 30.8ms for RF-based wireless video transmission. To verify that there isn’t a delay, however, real-world testing is necessary as with any new technology.

The Teradek Ranger gives users the option of operating in the 5 GHz band, which is suitable for most applications, but it also supports the most recent 6 GHz (U-NII 5) bandwidth, giving users access to 12 recently created RF channels without any interference.

The Micro – The Features

A scaled-down version of the Ranger, the Ranger Micro, can send HD signals up to 1080p60 via HDMI or 3G-SDI. Three transmission ranges are offered: 229 m (750 ft), 762 m (2,500 ft), and 1524 m (5000 ft). The broadcast mode for the Point-to-Multipoint and Multicast-Mode workflow is only supported by the 1524m/5000ft model, though. The receiver can be powered by either a V-Mount or Gold-Mount battery plate, while the transmitter sports a joystick and a small LCD screen for menu navigation on the side.

The MKII – The Features

Teradek’s Ranger Mk II model is intended to transmit a 4K 10-bit HDR signal and is offered in three different transmission ranges: 229 meters (750 feet), 762 meters (2,500 feet), and 1524 meters (5000 feet). Similar to the Ranger Mini model, the broadcast mode for Point-to-Multipoint and Multicast-Mode workflow is only available at a range of 1524 m/5000 ft. A tiny LCD screen and a joystick are both included in the transmitter for menu navigation. You can personalize the receiver by adding a V-Mount or Gold-Mount battery plate.

The App

You have the ease of monitoring your wireless workflow and setting your Teradek Ranger system from your smartphone. To measure and evaluate the frequency and amplitude of the signal, just pair the transmitters and receivers. Also, you may check your live RF spectrum bandwidth and evaluate the strength of a live channel for both licensed and unlicensed bands. For use on an iPad or Android device, the Teradek Launchpad App can be downloaded from the ITunes Store or Google Play.

The cost and accessibility

As of right now, neither the cost nor the availability of Teradek’s Ranger series are officially known. Visit Teradek’s website by clicking here for more information on this product range.
