Tilta has introduced a new car mounting system called the Hydra Articulating. This system is user-friendly, featuring three suction cups and magic arms connected to a ball head with a Manfrotto quick-release system.
The Hydra Articulating system can support a maximum payload of up to 20kg (44 lbs).
Background and Existing Products
Tilta is no stranger to rigging cameras on moving vehicles, with a range of existing car mounting systems. These include the comprehensive Hydra Arm Mini, which attaches to a car’s roof and side rails, and the Hydra Alien system. Recently, Tilta also released the Hydra Electronic Suction Cup module, designed to alleviate concerns about suction cup pressure loss.
Compact and Budget-Friendly Solution
For those who do not frequently need to attach a camera to a car or are working with smaller cinema or mirrorless cameras, investing in a large car mounting system may not be practical. Tilta’s Hydra Articulating car mounting system addresses this with a more budget-friendly and compact option.
Key Features of the Hydra Articulating System
The Hydra Articulating system includes three main components: three suction cups, three magic arms, and one ball head.
Suction Cups: The system features 6-inch suction cups that attach to the car. These cups are equipped with NATO rails with safety pins and 1/4″-20 mounting points.
Magic Arms: The 11-inch (28cm) magic arms have NATO clamps on both ends. One end attaches to the suction cups, while the other connects to the ball head. This design allows for quick adjustments to raise, lower, and level the ball head. The magic arms can support a maximum payload of 7.9kg (17.5 lbs).
Ball Head: The ball head consists of several parts, including a 75mm/100mm ball adapter that connects to the magic arms. This adapter provides 15° of adjustment to level the camera. The kit also includes a 75mm ball head tie-down adapter, a Manfrotto quick-release module, and a Manfrotto/Arca quick-release plate.

The Tilta Hydra Articulating car mounting system is available for preorder and is expected to start shipping on June 7th for $449.
