At the upcoming NAB Show scheduled for April 14-17, 2024, in Las Vegas, Tolka Telecommunications will showcase its comprehensive array of broadcast media products and services.
Visitors to Tolka’s booth, W3461 located in the West Hall, will be treated to demonstrations of the latest in ATSC 3 receiver modules, datacasting solutions, and the highly efficient Tolka ADS system for targeted content insertion.
Advancements in Television Technology
Michael Day, the chairman of Tolka Telecommunications, emphasized the transition in television technology standards. “4K-UHD with high-dynamic range has become the benchmark for all contemporary TV receivers,” Day stated. He highlighted the challenge broadcasters face in deciding the timing for upgrading their transmissions to the superior 4K-UHD HDR format. Day further noted, “ATSC 3 presents an opportunity for both terrestrial and satellite broadcasters to deliver 4K-UHD HDR content directly to viewers. ATSC 3.0 Stack Modules
A key focus for Tolka at the NAB Show 2024 is the promotion of its ATSC 3.0 Stack modules. These modules are fully compatible with both ATSC 3.0 and ATSC 1.0 standards, making them ideal for a variety of devices including household TV receivers, set-top boxes, in-car receivers, and mobile devices. The technology enables viewers to access the latest HDR UHD free-to-air television programs on devices running Android or Linux. The Tolka ATSC 3.0 Stack modules boast additional functionalities such as support for datacast receivers, multiple tuners, and enhanced emergency notification capabilities through datacasting. They also incorporate A3SA digital rights management to protect against program piracy and support plug-in integration for third-party HTML user agents and media players.
Tolka ADS for Targeted Advertising
Another innovation highlighted by Tolka is the Tolka ADS, a software-based solution integrating content insertion with advertisement targeting, eliminating the need for an internet return path. This system allows advertisers to achieve higher conversion rates and build audience databases by enabling broadcasters to insert localized advertising specific to regions. Designed for easy integration with existing playout automation systems, Tolka ADS ensures precise, frame-accurate content insertion for both video and banner ads, offering tailored commercials to selected demographic groups and maintaining a log of content substitution history for reference.
