Cosina, a well-established Japanese lens manufacturer, has expanded its lineup of lenses for Canon RF cameras with the introduction of the Voigtlander NOKTON 75mm F/1.5 Aspherical lens.
This addition marks the third manual prime lens designed specifically for the Canon RF mount by the company, following the successful launches of the NOKTON 50mm F/1.0 Aspherical and NOKTON 40mm F/1.2 Aspherical lenses.
Design and Construction
The Voigtlander NOKTON 75mm F/1.5 Aspherical lens boasts a durable metal construction and a compact design, measuring only 7.1cm (2.79 inches) in length and weighing 525 grams (18.51 ounces). It features a manual focus ring and an aperture ring at the front, which can be adjusted silently for video production needs by a de-clicking mechanism.
Technical Specifications
This lens accommodates full-frame sensors and provides a manual focus experience enhanced by electronic communication with Canon RF mount cameras. The electronic contacts allow for the transmission of EXIF data, support for in-body image stabilization (IBIS) for cameras equipped with this feature, and manual focus assistance technologies like magnification and peaking. The optical structure of the lens includes seven elements in six groups, a twelve-blade aperture for smooth bokeh, and a minimum focusing distance of 50 cm (19.7 inches). The lens also comes with a screw-in lens hood and supports a 62mm front filter thread.
Pricing and Availability
Scheduled for release in April 2024, the Voigtlander NOKTON 75mm F/1.5 Aspherical lens is priced at approximately $900. This lens, while not offering weather-sealing, continues Cosina’s trend of providing manual, high-quality prime lenses for Canon RF camera users, enhancing creative options without the feature of autofocus.
