Wisycom Wireless Solutions

Maria: Wisycom has unveiled new wireless solutions. The MRK16 system accommodates up to 16 true diversity channels within a slender, 19-inch 1RU aluminum frame. For larger setups, the system allows for daisy-chaining up to four units, supporting a total of 64 channels across 4RU. Philip, can you talk about this?

Philip: I’m not a big audio guy, but I understand how important audio is. What’s interesting here is the density they’re achieving—you get 16 channels in a single 1RU rack. You can connect four of these units together, quadrupling the number of channels to 64, which really makes sense in a large television facility. There, everyone can have a dedicated channel and pack. In larger sporting events, this setup allows you to mic up more people, including coaches, players, and sideline officials. It greatly enhances the diversity of audio sources in live productions that are wireless. It’s exciting. I don’t have a need for this in my studio, but I can see many facilities where this would simplify their audio configurations and make it much easier.

Perifery: AI content engine

Maria: Great, okay, now moving on to Perifery. Perifery announces a new AI-based intelligent content engine for media management. This cutting-edge software platform is designed to redefine the management, organization, and curation of multimedia assets, including images, videos, audio files, documents, and more. So, Philip, can you break this down for us?

Philip: Yeah, I guess I’m getting a little AI fatigued. We’re seeing it more and more in these types of solutions. I think there’s a role for them, and as they get better and better trained, they’ll be more impactful. There isn’t a lot out yet on exactly what this could do. The big issue I think with a lot of these AI-based solutions is their specificity. For instance, it’s easy to request a truck, a blue truck, or a truck in front of a barn. But if you ask for a truck in front of the Washington Monument, they struggle because they don’t recognize the monument.

Now, I think if these solutions start to include the ability to learn or train the model around your specific content—like knowing what a tornado is for the Weather Channel or what a hurricane is—it could be transformative. I’ve seen solutions that interact with the marketing departments of football teams, collecting data like player identification and numbers through facial recognition. If this solution, or any out there, can provide such capabilities, it will make it much easier for specific organizations to train models relevant to their needs.

For example, early voice recognition and transcription technologies required specialized packages for legal or medical terminologies. It’s similar here; the key is developing solutions that make it easier for specific organizations to train these models to recognize and organize their content. Once that’s achieved, these tools will become incredibly powerful. I’ve experimented with some; they are interesting and have substantial potential for organizational use, not just content creation. It’s about replacing what used to be the role of a content librarian and simplifying the task of finding and utilizing your library’s value. The challenge lies in designing a user interface that allows even non-technical users to easily train the model. Once that’s addressed, you’ll see these solutions become very influential within organizations.

Vaxis: Atom A5 SDI Monitor

Maria: Okay, now moving on, Vaxis launches the Atom A5 SDI Monitor: Enhanced Brightness and Dual Connectivity for Videographers. The Atom A5 SDI maintains the compact 5.5-inch display of the original A5H model, offering a full HD resolution of 1920 by 1080. The monitor’s brightness has been enhanced to 2,000 nits, and it boasts a contrast ratio of 1200:1, ensuring clear visibility even in direct sunlight. So Philip, quickly, what are your thoughts on this?

Philip: Well, it’s great. We’ve seen access and a lot of monitor manufacturers used to say, “Hey, we’re going to make them with a recorder,” so you had a lot of monitors that were recorders, and then a lot of camera monitors were coming out that were camera to cloud. This is the wireless version, which really helps on film and television sets where you have things on gimbals or in remote locations where focusing is not easy. Someone can see it and then remotely focus it. It’s exciting to see more and more monitors. I’d love to see one that’s wireless and a recorder, as well as super bright—kind of combine all those things into one. We’re slowly getting there, and of course, Vaxis has been one of the leaders in wireless transmission, which becomes very important on film sets.

Maria: That’s all the time we have today. Many thanks to our expert, Philip. And don’t forget to comment on the news we’ve discussed. See you next Monday at the same time!
