WorldCast Systems and Orban Labs have entered into a partnership in which Orban Labs will utilize WorldCast’s APTmpX codec technology across various products including the Optimod 5950, 5750, and Trio-FM.
This technology will also be featured in Orban Labs’ FM processors.
Technology Integration and Advantages
WorldCast Systems has implemented the APTmpX technology across its APT Codec product range and has integrated the codec directly into the decoders of its Ecreso FM AiO Series Transmitters. This technology is recognized for its use in numerous MPX STL (Studio to Transmitter Link) networks worldwide.
APTmpX distinguishes itself from other MPX compression methods primarily through its use of ADPCM-based coding, which ensures high fidelity and precise control over audio quality. This transparency in processing allows the technology to preserve the integrity of the Nielsen watermarking used for station ratings in the U.S.
Statements from Executives
Hartmut Foerster, the Product Manager at WorldCast Systems, emphasized the superiority of APTmpX in providing high-quality, efficient, and delay-minimal MPX compression. This makes it suitable for broadcasters looking to switch their STLs from audio baseband to MPX.
David Day, President of Orban Labs, highlighted the unique capability of the APTmpX codec to distribute analog FM composite without affecting watermark encoding negatively. He noted the codec’s exceptional audio quality and its seamless integration with existing customer units for upgrades.
