Xelmus, a Ukrainian manufacturer specializing in high-end anamorphic lenses, has introduced two new lenses to its APOLLO 2x anamorphic series.
These additions are the 24mm T2 designed for Super35 sensors and the full-frame 180mm T2.8. Both of these lenses are now open for pre-orders.
Background and Lens Details
Since its debut in 2019, the Xelmus APOLLO 2x series has included seven different focal lengths, with options covering full-frame sensors except for the 32mm which is tailored for Super35. The latest lenses expand the existing range, adding options for both wider and longer focal lengths. The company released a video featuring the 24mm lens, demonstrating its capabilities.
Specifications and Features
The APOLLO series is known for its distinct 2x anamorphic look, similar to the classic Panavision lenses, but in a more compact and user-friendly design. All lenses in the series are equipped with PL mounts, offer rapid aperture settings, excellent close focusing abilities, and a 270° focus throw. They are available with metric or imperial scale markings and feature a distinctive white housing, reminiscent of the iconic NASA missions.
The 24mm T2 lens is compatible with Super35 sensors, measuring 23x25mm. The 180mm T2.8 lens covers the full-frame sensor of the Alexa LF in Open Gate mode, making it a versatile choice for filmmakers.
Comparison and Market Position
With these new models, Xelmus aims to compete directly with the Atlas Orion lens set, which also recently expanded its range with new anamorphic lenses including the world’s widest 2x anamorphic lens.
Pricing and Availability
The 24mm T2 and 180mm T2.8 lenses from the APOLLO series are available for pre-order on the Xelmus website. Both lenses require a deposit of $8,999 and have a full price of $17,999 each.
