Zattoo is introducing its new Stream API at the IBC 2024 event.

This suite of custom-built applications and services is designed to enable developers and operators to efficiently build, launch, and scale next-generation streaming solutions.

Technical Expertise and Platform Capabilities

With over two decades of technical expertise, Zattoo has built a strong foundation in delivering fully hosted and managed white-label IPTV, OTT, and TV-as-a-Service offerings. Stream API builds on this foundation by providing a comprehensive set of tools, services, and platforms to meet the demands of modern streaming solutions.

Key Features of Stream API

The core of Stream API includes a server-side ad insertion (SSAI) Advertising API, which offers dynamic ad substitution for live streams and on-demand content. This feature opens up new revenue opportunities through configurable ad campaigns, supported by Zattoo’s European ad sales team.

Stream API also ensures high-quality streaming with fast, reliable, and secure multi-bitrate streams for Live TV, FAST channels, and On-Demand content. It leverages a carrier-grade, fully managed head-end and a robust European content distribution network.

Future Enhancements

Zattoo plans to enhance Stream API with a multimedia Playback SDK, which will streamline playback, DRM, telemetry, and configuration across multiple platforms. Additionally, the Playback Telemetry feature will provide real-time video analytics, allowing developers to optimize their services by analyzing playback events such as startup times and video quality.

Another future addition is the Playback Test Automation tool, designed to automate testing across various devices, ensuring consistent performance and quick issue resolution during development and maintenance.

Industry Challenges and Zattoo’s Strategic Focus

Bert Schulzki, Zattoo’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, highlighted the industry’s current challenges, including the need to re-platform with fewer resources and more devices. He emphasized the importance of adopting a flexible, modular, and scalable architecture to ensure long-term viability. Zattoo aims to create a strategically curated B2B partner ecosystem to support growth in the industry.
