Zero Density, JVC, Matrox in the new episode of 360 Seconds

  • Zero Density is Set to Revolutionize The Graphics Ecosystem
  • JVC Unveils Its First Ever 40X Zoom PTZ  Camera Series
  • Matrox Video to Showcase Latest IP and IT Workflow Solutions

360 Seconds. Broadcast News & Commentary is a weekly program on Youtube about the latest equipment for broadcasting and film. Explained by experts – practitioners directly working in the field of cinema and television.

Hosts: Philip Grossman, host and co-producer at Visionaries, Ralf van Vegten, managing director NL at Zero Density, and Maria Kholodova. Production – TKT1957 LLC.

Airing on April 1, 2024

Maria: Zero Density is set to revolutionize the graphic ecosystem by introducing a new approach to real-time animated graphics and rendering at NAB. This includes a brand-new approach powered by Unreal Motion Graphics, which aims to increase rendering and compositing quality while simplifying asset creation and integration and reducing operator complexity.

Zero Density to Showcase Cutting-Edge Virtual Production at NAB 2024

We have a representative from the company, Ralf van Vegten, to talk a bit more about this.

Ralf van Vegten: My name is Ralf van Vegten, and I’m the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Zero Density. I think we have some really exciting news to bring to NAB. We have taken a fresh look at the entire graphics ecosystem, and at NAB, we will launch a series of products that will help you to be more efficient and create higher quality graphics. So, what we mean by that is we are able to create assets once and use them in real-time motion graphics, pre-production motion graphics, but also in virtual production. So, the cost goes down, the quality goes up. I think we have something really cool to share.

Maria: So, Philip, what do you think about this?

Philip: Well, you know I’m always a fan of bringing simplicity to the tools for creators. We’ve had AR (Augmented Reality), XR (Extended Reality), VR (Virtual Reality) tech, and motion graphics tech, along with the latest trend in AI, which is really just advanced algorithms, more or less. These tools have been there, but they have not been for the faint of heart; they’ve been difficult to use. I think Zero Density’s approach, although there’s not a lot of details around it, from trying to read “the tea leaves”, it looks like they’re going to simplify the workflow across multiple motion graphics, VR, and XR environments. So, you can create something once to use for XR, and then use it in VR, use it in set extension, use it in news. They’re building an ecosystem to allow this to happen. So, I think it’s exciting. I’m going to have to swing by their booth in the next week or two when I get out to NAB.

Maria: Great, okay, now moving on to JVC. JVC unveils its first-ever 40X Zoom PTZ Camera Series with JVC KY-PZ510 technology at its core. The new 540 cameras incorporate the brand’s award-winning features, such as AI-enabled advanced SMART auto-tracking operation and NDI supported IP-based remote operation capabilities. So, Philip, can you talk to us about this?

JVC Introduces the KY-PZ540 Series at NAB 2024

Philip: Yeah, there are a lot of new PTZs coming out, and I think it’s especially significant in the sports world. It’s pretty amazing, especially with their support for NDI because it really simplifies single cable operation, enabling them to put these cameras in locations that they would not necessarily be able to get to otherwise. And then, of course, with the 40x zoom, it’s really targeted towards sports, or long-range entertainment, I guess you could say. Adding in that AI tracking capability starts to simplify how you can produce a live show. No longer are you going to need 20 camera operators. You can reduce the number of camera operators, allowing the cameras to track the action and play. It’s exciting to see what they’re going to be doing. JVC is known for its camera tech, its sensor tech, so incorporating this into a larger range of PTZs is going to really extend what you can do with them. And they’re not that expensive; I think they’re in the range of $2,500 to $3,000. So, you can set up more home studios or small flash studios in news operations and just extend what you’re able to do.

Maria: Great, thank you. Now moving on to Matrox. Matrox Video is set to demonstrate its products and share examples of how they help in broadcasting, live events, and other media-related activities. Among others, the exhibition will feature the Monarch EDGE series, known for its encoding and decoding capabilities, including support for 4K, multi-HD, low-latency streaming, and upcoming features such as HDR and Dolby audio. So, Philip, can you unpack this for us?

Matrox Video to Showcase Latest IP and IT Workflow Solutions at 2024 NAB Show

Philip: Yeah. Matrox has been around for a long time, I think 40-some odd years now, and they were the go-to for professional graphics cards. Play-out servers used the Matrox card. And then we started to slowly move towards Nvidia-based cards for a lot of this graphics. Of course, recently, I think in the last year or two, Matrox and Nvidia have started collaborating together to produce these new series of cards. And of course, Nvidia, with its acquisition of Mellanox, adds in that additional SMPTE ST 2110 and networking capability. So now, we’re starting to see the power of the graphics, the SMPTE ST 2110 IP-based solutions, and Matrox is really enabling a lot of that. It’s exciting to see what they’re doing. A lot of times, there wasn’t a lot of that sort of transcoder, SDI to IP, or just SMPTE ST 2110 in general, and they’re now enabling this on a smaller and larger scale. So, smaller organizations, larger organizations will be able to adopt the SMPTE ST 2110 technology. And then they’re adding, then layering in the graphics, which are the HDR and the standards conversion. So, the product set is really being filled out now. They’re still sort of the go-to for professional graphics organization and product line.

Maria: Thank you so much for joining us. Many thanks to our expert, Philip. And don’t forget to comment on the news we’ve discussed. See you next Monday at the same time!
